What is a 'Men's Shed?'

"They're community spaces for men to connect, converse and create. The activities are often similar to those of garden sheds, but for groups of men to enjoy together. They help reduce loneliness and isolation... where our Shedders, as we call them, benefit from regular social interactions, new and improved skills, and regular, active participation in activities they enjoy. "

Copnor Men's Shed

The Mission Statement of Copnor Men's shed is:

  • To provide a safe, supportive and friendly environment for people to gather, volunteer, work, teach, learn and seek fellowship with other like - minded people.

  • To promote and stabilise the mental, physical, emotional and economic well being of people in our community.

With a large Dunster cabin shed already in situ, in January 2016 members were very grateful for the donation of building materials from Portsmouth Buildbase which enabled them to construct decking and an access ramp.

Now complete with workbenches and an abundance of machinery and tools enabling a huge variety of projects to be undertaken ranging from bird boxes, to planters, to mud kitchens, to name just a few, the members are always working on something interesting.

There is also a very productive poly tunnel on site in which the Shedders grow a range of seasonal fruit and vegetables as well as plants. Together with the raised borders located around the site, the produce and any items made using shed resources are sold to raise funds to help with running costs.

In fact, everything that is grown or made by the Shedders is always for the collective profit of The Shed and is never for personal profit.

If you are interested in visiting Copnor Men's Shed, you can always be assured of a warm welcome and a cup of tea. Most members are experienced in a variety of skills and are happy to discuss their current project schedule and will be able to advise and assist you as necessary.

Copnor Men's Shed is located at the rear of The Stacey Community Centre, behind the ball court. They meet every weekday from 10am - 5pm. You can either call into the office for an informal chat or email them for further information.
