The Garden & Orchard:

We are fortunate to have a large community garden, complete with an award winning organic orchard, a wild sensory garden and a sheltered patio area, as well as several raised beds.

With the help of funding from Portsmouth City Council's 'Healthy Pompey' project in 2009, our garden evolved from a neglected and overgrown plot of land into the surprisingly tranquil and beautiful garden that it is today.

It is a wonderful environment from which to host our various fund raising workshops and Family Fun Days for gardening and rustic crafting projects and demonstrations and as a peaceful spot in which members of the community can simply sit and relax.

The Stacey Pre-School will be making full use of the outdoor spaces when the Early Years provision opens in January 2022. Not only for the all important mud kitchens and potion stations, but also to provide opportunities for the children to sew, cultivate and harvest produce throughout the year.

The sensory garden's wild and unstructured natural setting will be further enhanced with natural play resources - as well as a firepit - to offer multiple opportunities for young explorers to learn from the natural world, using both natural and recycled resources to inform their play and their learning journey as this area becomes the basecamp for the Stacey Pre-School's Forest School program.

Our volunteer Community Gardeners are always kept busy in maintaining this beautiful space. We are very grateful for their generous support in donating their time, skill and enthusiasm to The Stacey's outdoor spaces.

Gardening Club:

The garden and orchard are now managed by our community gardener with help from centre staff and our team of volunteers, with its upkeep and maintenance being entirely financed by our own fundraising activities.

To encourage the local and extended community to join together in a creative and productive ongoing project, we are always interested in voluntary support from keen experienced or inexperienced gardeners.

Similarly, our Gardening Club, which runs every Wednesday is an excellent place to begin supporting your local community centre. Everyone is made very welcome, we provide all necessary tools, gloves and complementary refreshments: all we need is your enthusiasm and time.

Please contact us if you would like to volunteer or join the Gardening Club.
